Ah! See! This is why Singaporeans are complacent! We also should have a facebook app so that we can
help guard against slippery terrorists! band together to catch escaped terrorists!
This isn’t exactly the latest of news but The Greater Manchester Police force has created a Facebook app for lead collection for investigations. Apparently it delivers a real-time feed of police news as well as makes appeals for information.
From what I’ve read, there’s a “Submit Intelligence” button that takes the user to a random page where users can submit anonymous tips.
I find it rather interesting. Firstly, it’s definitely something that shows that they’re involved in the developments in the social/technological scene. But more interesting to me is how “anonymous” can be achieved on Facebook. I mean, every click you make is probably logged complete with your IP and other information. Even if a page takes you to a form where you don’t need to type your name, it’s probably already passed on your username/id to that page. What’s stopping the police from using that information?
Oh, and don’t forget that facebook has a knack of updating all your friends of what you’re doing/ what you do most.
“Ridzuan has just submitted an intelligence report. Click Here to send yours too!”
…You better not have added Mas Selamat as your friend. Later he bomb you then you know.
