Meeting Felix @ Geek Terminal

It was a great meet considering we were meeting someone who’s part of the CakePHP team and that I haven’t been to Geek Terminal in such a long time.

Since I’m still a Cake noob, I couldn’t entirely appreciate the beauty of the framework but the highlight of it came when he presented his present project – PostTask. It’s a task management tool that has a different philosophy from the standard to-do lists like rememberthemilk. While that usually revolves around listing down tasks that need to be done in the long run, PostTask revolves around trying to plan for things that need to be done Today.

Sure…you can just label existing tasks with a ‘today’ tag but PostTask allows you estimate a duration for the task and it automatically calculates what time you can call it a day. Effectively, it helps you from being overly ambitious by putting down 200 items that you so truly believe you can get done before you go to bed….It helps to keep you practical and realistic about what needs to be done and whether it can be done today. I think he explains it better here.

That said, he also gave me a glimpse in jQuery which I was coincidentally reading about earlier today because I want to use it for a mini-project that i’m building. It looks really simple!

Anyway, it’s amazing how technology has allowed today to happen. In fact, I think it’s a great thing if his PostTask application can be integrated with the Widgeous platform.

I’m inspired by his work. I’m further inspired by how much he’s achieved although he’s so much younger than I am. Hopefully he can make it down for the Tech65 recording and the PHP usergroup meetup. They’ll benefit so much from him.
