Do your research when choosing a name

I’ve recently incorporated Ridz Technologies LLP as my front for handling all the consultancy and development work that I do. I feel, perhaps, this is a good time to talk about a rather hilarious mistake I made in my previous company.

If you didn’t know, before I worked on Widgeous, i had already set up Splazz Solutions Pte Ltd to handle my web solutions company. That was something a couple of friends and I decided to do for a while to gain experience as well dip our toes. The vision was as grand as that of Widgeous but it definitely served a need.

Anyhow, my story today isn’t about the company but about the company name. Splazz. It was a name coined back in 2005 because I wanted something that seemed fun like “Splash” or “Splat” but those domains were taken. So Splazz sounded kind workable for me. It wasn’t till some time in 2008 that I actually did a search for it on google to see if we’ve been mentioned anywhere(ok, the truth is, I wanted to know we screwed up and had any bad press)

So I entered “Splazz” on google and hit the return key.

And this is what I saw:

splazz – 1 definition – To ejaculate.To cum .To blow a wad.

It shocked me for a while because I had no idea that’s what we were. Of course, it’s not a widely known slang(or is it? None of my friends seemed to know.) Anyway, i told my partners about this and I supposed we laughed it off.

Now that things have changed somewhat, Splazz has been deregistered and is now operating under the new name because I decided to take the company in a different direction doing rather different things.

So yeah, the next you choose to just pick a word from the air, do just check out what it means. ;p

Now…I wonder if I could use www.splazz-solutions.com for something else. Sell Viagra perhaps?
