About 10 days ago, Starbucks in Singapore started distributing their new Starbucks card, just like what the US has been having for the longest time. Today, however, Starbucks in the US takes a major step towards phasing out the cards by extending their support for mobile payments to almost 300 outlets in New York and Long Island.
Called “Starbucks Card Mobile “, it allows iPhone and BlackBerry users to display a 2-D barcode to a scanner at the order counter. It also allows users to manage their account – doing stuff like reloading their card.
With this happening just after they launched their Starbucks Digital Network, it’s really exciting to see how they are trying to use technology to create a unique and somewhat immersive experience each time you enter a Starbucks.
Now, I can only hope the Singapore Starbucks will follow suit soon.
