The team at Ridz.sg is a huge fan of the Civilization franchise. You don’t want to know how many hours we have clocked in the darn game, with me and Ridz being true blue blooded Civilization fans. We started playing the original Civilization, followed by the acclaimed sequel. We also dabbled in Sid Meier’s Alpha Centuri.
Last week, we bought and started on the latest expansion of Civ 5 and bade farewell to the weekend. I probably spent about 12 hours last weekend (much of it in the late night) playing Civ5, which was an ungodly amount of time considering I barely play games for more than two hours a week now in my current job. I very much enjoyed my first diplomatic win with a play time of about 6 hours in Prince difficulty.
I just wanted to say, WOW. This is a great expansion and you should get it if you haven’t. This expansion builds on the strengths of the old game, while breathing new life into the more mundane end-game which tended towards boring previous. Last time, all you did was to probably quickly accelerated through the end-game toward the winning goal by ending your turns as quickly as possible as victory beckoned, with hardly anything in your way (save an all-out invasion by the AI). Now you have to think, strategize, bribe and monitor your relationships with other nations, making it a much more realistic and engaging game. The new trade route mechanism adds a new layer of complexity by providing additional resources to march toward your goals.
This was not meant to be a review, just wanted to blog about an awesome (rare) weekend I had catching up on my computer games. Steam’s having summer sales by the way. 🙂
