Tokyo Game Show 2013, aka TGS 2013, was held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, two weekends ago. (I lost my internet connection for 2 weeks due to a spoilt modem…) TGS is the largest gaming event held annually in Japan, and is also one of the world’s largest video games exhibition. The theme for this year’s TGS is “Games: Limitless Evolution”, and a record 270,197 people attended this year’s exhibition. Famous for its range of showcases and the delectable booth babes, I dragged myself out of bed and headed for Kaihin-Makuhari on the last day of TGS even though my supposed partner-in-crime ‘pang-sehed’ me. (TSK, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE)
This year’s showcase includes Sony’s Playstation 4, Playstation Vita TV, Microsoft’s Xbox One, EA Games, GREE, Square Enix, Sega, Capcom, Bandai-Namco and more, but honestly, there were no new true revelations as the next-gen consoles were unveiled at other events before TGS 2013. Indie games did make its first appearance at TGS with a dedicated Indie Game Area. TGS has a cosplay segment as well for the many cosplayers. The queues for trying out games at the major developers such as Sony were insanely long, with queues of up to 3 hours, and all I could do on that lazy Sunday (I really should’ve got there at 10am instead of 2pm) was go around checking out the exhibits and taking photos, which was awesome fun all by itself.
In related news, the Playstation 4 will be released in Japan only on February 22nd 2014, priced at 41,979 yen. A PlayStation 4 First Limited Pack including the PlayStation Camera will be available with at 46,179 yen. For all you folks back home in Singapore, Playstation 4 will be released in Mid-December 2013. Lucky you!
If you are interested in checking out Tokyo Game Show, it is held annually at Makuhari Messe around this time of the year. It is open to Business Visitors for the first two days, and open to the public for the next two days. Advance Tickets cost 1000 yen while Same-Day Tickets cost 1200 yen for the public. Tokyo Game Show 2014 is scheduled to be held on September 18th – September 21st. I highly recommend going early if you want to try out the games.
Without further ado, below are some images I captured for TGS 2013:
