Today we have yet another power bank on hand for us to review. This time round, it is the Anker Astro Slim3 power bank which holds a capacity of 6000 mAh. Unlike the previous Valore Bookmark power bank which we reviewed, the Anker Astro Slim3 only comes in one color, black. Size wise, it is just slightly thicker and heavier but I think it is still pretty slim enough, well at least for me.
Aesthetics and Functionalities
The Anker Astro Slim3 power bank comes with an attached cable for you to plug into your phone. The downside to this is that, you would have to bring along an extra cable if you are going to charge the Anker Astro Slim3 power bank. In case you are wondering, the extra cable comes along with the power bank when you purchase it. Personally, I feel that having the attached cable is a convenience when I am not expecting to recharge my power bank.
Of course, if you feel that the attached charging cable is too short and you prefer something longer so that you could throw the power bank into your bag while charging your phone, no worries. There is an additional USB port for you to plug in your own cable. Yes, in short, this also means that this power bank has the ability to charge 2 phones at once!
There is a charging indicator consisting of 4 light indicators. A necessary indicator I feel, so that I would know how much power is left in the power bank. It lights up whenever you plug a cable into either of the ports.
Next, as usual, I will be putting the Anker Astro Slim3 to the test in terms of its true charging capacity by using the HTC One which has a battery capacity of 2,300 mAh. I will be expecting the Anker Astro Slim3 to be able to charge my phone up to 100% at least twice if not slightly more. And so I began the test. The phone was drained flat out of power before plugging in the Anker Astro Slim3 power bank to charge it up. Shortly after, I turned on the phone and activated the aeroplane mode.
First round of charging got it up to 100%. And then I repeated the test again. Second round of charging got it up to 100% again. Seems like the Anker Astro Slim3 power bank is performing as I have expected. On the third charging cycle, it did not last long and seems like the Anker Astro Slim3 is good for 2 charging cycles on the HTC One phone. Giving a conservative estimate, the Anker Astro Slim3 is effective for around 4600 mAh which gives it an efficiency of around 77%. Pretty good I say.
I like my devices to be reasonably small and light-weight. So the Anker Astro Slim3 meets my criteria. In terms of the charging effectiveness for this power bank, I am pretty satisfied as well. So, if you are looking for something small, light-weight and able to give you around 4600 mAh worth of power, this is pretty worth it for something that costs slightly under SG$50.
Plus: Slim, light-weight, comes with an attached cable
Minus: Would have to remember to bring an additional cable if you need to charge this power bank
