I thought some of you might be interested in some early photos we took on the Nexus 6P, which Google had claimed to be the BEST. Now, we here at Ridz.sg have heard that many times and been disappointed equally. Like the really unimpressive HTC One cameras which were extremely disappointing. At Ridz, we are also photographers as you can see from our many camera and photography posts, so the camera matters a lot to us. Here are some early shots straight from the camera. We’ll provide more later this week when we get more time to use the phone. You can click on the photos to see them in full-sized glory.
First up, a simple close up macro-ish shot of the Coffee Bean cup. Colours were not too off, but this was after some manual refocusing. The auto-mode was too over-exposed.
A shot of the interior of a shopping complex with varied lighting conditions. I thought the camera did really well to balance the over- and under-exposed areas with the HDR+ mode. Note that the lights at the top were not over-powering the scene.
An outdoor night shot of a lighted scene. Some noise can be seen, but really minimal, with the camera’s auto modes really able to balance the shot. I felt the white balance was a bit off.
I really wanted to try to test the power of the camera in a low-light condition. As you can see, this was the result and it speaks for itself. It’s a really dark place, but the camera was able to show the details of the basketball court without the corridors lights overpowering the photo. And you can barely make out the noise.
This will be the first of several reviews of the Nexus 6P, as well, we have 3 units of it amongst the writing team and I’m sure everyone will have their own opinions. Stay tuned.
